'Gog and Magog' Glastonbury
Print Size including a white mount 20" x 16"
Sited near the foot of Glastonbury Tor Hill, stand two large ancient oak trees known as Gog and Magog. They are said to be over 2,000 years old, once forming part of an avenue of oaks that lead up to the Tor. Frances visited Gog and Magog at the foot of the Glastonbury Tor Hill, creating her painting in the shadow of the trees, she was inspired to write the following words to accompany it.
‘Gog and Magog’
Majesties of the past, descendants true,
Knowledge of ages within,
Hallowed ground, anointed for all,
Showing where the avenue did begin,
Ancient and crumbled,
But still, life they hold,
Their rings of history,
So many tales to be told,
Place your hands upon their girth,
Stand firmly on the ground,
You will hear their whispers spoken,
Many still with you, just look around.
